My Approach

I bring a warm and steady presence, a gentle sense of humor, and a genuine curiosity about your story to sessions. We will start where you are, and can work collaboratively to help you find meaningful change. The therapeutic relationship is essential in taking vulnerable and challenging steps in therapy, and this principle is at the heart of my practice with each person. I have also trained in some more specialized offerings over the years. Below, you will find more specific descriptions of these therapeutic components.

Offerings

Narrative Therapy

This kind of therapy invites you to look at the stories that have shaped your sense of self in a new light. Together, we make room for alternative stories—ones that honor your resilience, values, and innate qualities that you've had all along, or have developed in response to your life. In addition, we learn about, observe, and deconstruct problems within their social, cultural, and political contexts, making them more approachable to work with.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is an evidence-based approach that addresses a person's needs associated with recovery after trauma. It involves individually paced reprocessing of traumatic or distressing experiences while engaging in eye movements or other forms of sensory input. Through this process, the emotional intensity—or “charge”—of difficult memories can decrease. EMDR also helps address beliefs formed during times of stress or trauma that may no longer serve you, creating space for the development of new perspectives.

Parts Work

Parts work is based on the premise that our psyches are brilliantly adaptive. This approach explores the different parts of your inner world—those aspects of yourself that may feel very helpful at times, in conflict at others, full of raw emotion, or may show up in subtle or overtly protective ways. By getting to know these parts with curiosity and compassion, you may support them in working together more harmoniously.

Nature-Based Sessions

These sessions take place outdoors, either walking or sitting in nature. Engaging with the natural environment can offer another pathway for reflection, connection, grounding, metaphor, and creativity.

Experience and Training

I graduated from The University of Vermont in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and then completed Chatham University's Master of Science in Counseling Psychology program in 2014.

I completed my EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training with the Trauma Institute and Child Trauma Institute (TICTI), and was trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy through the Internal Family Systems Counselling Association of Canada.

I have worked in abortion care, domestic violence, sexual assault, and community mental health settings, crisis services, and in the public school system.

In 2018, I started a private practice in Athens, Georgia that I transitioned to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the summer of 2021.  I currently offer in-person care at my Regent Square office, and telehealth services to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Georgia residents.

I am an LGBTQIA+ Affirming provider, and welcome working with people of all backgrounds and identities.

I am eternally grateful to the clients, mentors, and fellow therapists who continue to teach me, even after our time together. Thank you.

Contact Me

If my approach and areas of focus speak to you, or if you have any questions about my work, please feel free to contact me.

Before scheduling an appointment,  I offer a free, 20-minute phone consultation to determine if my approach and your needs align. Finding a good match is so important to getting the most out of therapy. If we decide not to work together, I will offer three referrals for others in the field who have upcoming availability, and who may be a better fit for you.
